Find out what affect the change of concentration in the sucrose solution :: GCSE Biology A2 A-Level Coursework

Find out what affect the change of concentration in the sucrose solving has on the tummy of a white potato moment. entreIn this experiment I will be taking 5 similar potato chips andputting them into different sucrose resolutenesss ( apiece one with adifferent concentration) and observing the effect that eachconcentration has on the coat of the potato chip.AimI am doing this investigation in an enterprise to find out what affectthe change of concentration in the sucrose outcome has on the plug ofa potato chip. Background schooling Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a partiallypermeable tissue layer from an discipline with high concentration to an areawith low concentration The enemy of osmosis is active uptake, this is when water movesfrom an area with a low concentration to an area with lowconcentration. An example of this would be a root hair booth gettingwater from its surroundings. Partially permeable membranes have holes in them. These holes arethe size of just one water molecule. Water can range through the membrane in both directions although ifthere is a high concentration of water in the solution rather thanthe potato chip, the potato chip will receive water molecules and willincrease in size. Some membranes in plant and animal cells allow only sealedparticles to pass through them. They are partially (or selectively)permeable.PredictionI prophesy that as the concentration of the sucrose solution decreasesthe mass of the potato chip will increase. I think this because alower sucrose guinea pig would mean a higher water content and thereforas osmosis takes place the water in the solution will move from thesolution to the potato chip and as a result increasing the mass of thepotato chip.I also predict that the concentration of the solution and the mass ofthe potato chip will be directly proportional to each other.VariablesIn this investigation I will change the concentration of the solutionand I will be keeping the size of the potato and the temperature ofthe solution the same.EquipmentBelow is the apparatus that I will be using for my investigation. weaken watch Cutting tile Small knife Measuring cylinder Distilled water sucrose Potatoes Weighing scale Potato rationalizeter amaze film RulerMethod Firstly I will cut five pieces of potato. Then I will peal the potatoes with the knife. After this I will measure and weigh them to ensure that they are equal. Subsequently I will put 40ml of my solution in each of the tes furnishs.Test tube one will have 10ml of distilled water and 30ml of sucrose.
